VRWC Fixture - 2020 Winter Season
update 18 June 2020
The RaceWalking calendar in Australia is divided into two main
seasons, Winter and Summer.
The Winter Season occurs between April and September and
covers the Australian winter. Conditions are generally superb for road
walking with mild winter temperatures, fast courses and lots of
competition for all age groups.
The Summer Season occurs between October and March and
coincides with the long hot Australian summer. The emphasis in on track
walking and most races are over the shorter track distances. There is
also a strong walking presence in the 'Interclub' Track Competition
with all Athletics Teams fielding walkers in their regular
VRWC races are conducted in a traffic free environment on the Albert
Park Formula One Grand Prix service roads, Albert Park Reserve, Middle
2020 VRWC Winter Season was put on hold when COVID-19
restrictions came into play earlier this year. We had hoped to restart
competition on Saturday 27 June but we were forced to postpone that
start date. The season eventually kicked off on Saturday 4 July, with
suitable COVID-19 restrictions in place. The fixture for that day read as follows:
VRWC Roadraces, Middle Park, Saturday 4th July
1:45pm 1km Roadwalk Open (no timelimit)
2.00pm 3km Roadwalk Open (no timelimit)
2.30pm 10km Roadwalk Open timelimit 70 minutes)
Each race will be capped at 20 walkers. Places will be allocated in order of entry. No exceptions for late entries.
$10 per race entry. Walkers can only walk in ONE race. Multiple race entries are not possible.
Race entries close at 10PM Wednesday evening. No entries will be allowed on the day.
Sadly, with the Victorian Government reimposing Stage 3 restrictions
due to a surge in COVID-19 new cases in Melbourne, our VRWC winter
season has now ground to a halt. The new Stay at Home Directions for
metropolitan Melbourne and Mitchell Shire will be in effect from
11:59pm on Wednesday 8 July until 11.59pm on Wednesday 19 August.
We will make further announcements as the situation develops. In the
meanwhile, we wish everyone all the very best - stay safe, keep fit and
observe social distancing and we will all see each other once matters
ease once more.
