Terry Swan was first introduced to VRWC in May 2008 when his son Kyle joined us for his first race, as an U9 walker. Terry immediately threw himself into the fray, regularly acting as a time keeper and official from then on.

In 2009, he started working with Stuart Cooper taking competition photos and set up an online gallery on our website. In 2010, he became our official Club Photographer and joined the committee. In 2011, he took on the additional role of Records Officer, working with then secretary Tim Erickson. Terry was an active member of the committee right from the start, suggesting many new ideas.

When Tim decided to step down as Secretary in 2015, Terry stepped forward and took on the role. As of October 2023, he is still on the job and marks off 8 years in that role. The Secretary is normally the one of the most active committee members and this is certainly the case with Terry.

Some of his many contributions in that role include

    • Using his computer networking skills to enable an internet connection for the clubrooms and to link our computers and printers into the resultant LAN.
    • Working for several seasons with Ralph Bennett to introduce and adapt an RFID race timing system to our needs.
    • Setting up a new CD Revolutionise Members and Race entry portal with a more efficient payment system.
    • Coordinating the recent working bee and the cleanout of the storage shed, making it safer and more efficient for club use.

Terry has Level 3 and Oceania qualifications as a judge and has taken a leadership role on AV judging panels consistently over the past 10 years.

In 2017, he took on the additional role of Racewalking Australia Secretary, a role which he also continues to hold as of now.

He has been unceasingly passionate in his advocacy of the Club and the sport in general, always taking opportunities to promote its benefits to a wider public awareness.

At the 2023 VRWC Annual General Meeting, after 15 years of service to VRWC and with 6 additional years of service to RWA, Terry was awarded life membership, a fitting recognition of his many years of service to our club.
