In March 1999, the Athletics Australia Walking Commission released the following Practical Guide to Race Walking as an addendum to the IAAF Rules for local competitions within Australia. It was to be seen as an A.A. Local Ruleset which gave certain dispensations from the IAAF rules.

In 2003, this local ruleset was modified by the addendum shown below. It build on and supplemented the 1999 Local Bylaws.

In June 2010, the document was rewritten to take into account recent IAAF rule changes. The 2010 Ruleset is the one in current usage in Australia

As of 2014, Athletics Australia uses the new ‘Pit Lane’ rule for various underage Australian racewalk championships. In 2015/2016, it will use this rule at the following meets

2015 Australian All Schools

  • U18 5000m Race Walk (Male & Female)

2016 Australian Junior Championships

  • Under 20 10000m Race Walk (Male & Female)
  • Under 18 5000m Race Walk (Male & Female)
  • Under 17 5000m Race Walk (Male & Female)
